the people's photos
Tuesday, November 23, 1999 :: 11:12 p.m.
another site dedicated to found photographs, this one is definitely less, uh, artistic than object not found, but there's something to be said for its more, um, visceral charm.

queen bee crafts
Tuesday, November 23, 1999 :: 11:08 p.m.
hmm, it's seems that miss melty & i are on similar wave-lengths these days! rebecca (the queenbee) sells her gorgeous hand-made crafts here -- vinyl diamond-studded belts, fuzzy wallets, make-up bags, & more. i'd heard she makes kitty hats, or did for the now-defunct catch of the day mailorder, but these were nowhere to be seen on the site.

skinema
Saturday, November 20, 1999 :: 10:37 a.m.
take a dermatologist & a film buff & you get this site -- wholly dedicated to examining the skin conditions of the stars. vail reese once considered becoming an actor himself when he decided that using the movies & movie stars as examples was a great way to illustrate skin conditions & ease patient anxiety. just why is evil physically typified by scars, albinism & lesions? did you know that both madonna & vanessa williams both suffer from occasional bouts with adult acne? just how did robert redford get so wrinkled? really, i'm totally fascinated by his examination of cameron diaz's pores.

loud paper on-line
Friday, November 19, 1999 :: 09:19 a.m.
loud paper is a zine "dedicated to increasing the amount of architectural discourse." yummy. features on cynthia connolly (dischord/photographer), tibor kalman (designer), the saigon zoo, the daphne funeral home, & more. i'm still waiting for the loud paper kids to re-publish the breakdown of supermarket design psychology & the architectural politics of urban outfitters. ahem.

pander zine distro
Friday, November 19, 1999 :: 01:53 a.m.
ericka runs the best damn zine distro around, and i'm not just saying that because she carries mine (or because she let me crash on the floor of her apartment this last summer). so many goodies here, you'll easily blow twenty or thirty bucks in one sitting.

object not found
Friday, November 19, 1999 :: 10:55 a.m.
icki & i like finding lost things. we go to flea markets & thrift stores in search of these sometimes, pawing through cardboard boxes full of the photographs and letters of unknown (to us) people. this site is dedicated to found conversations, portraits, notes, & more.

ACTION! photozine
Friday, November 19, 1999 :: 10:39 a.m.
icki is the be-spectacled boy at the show, crammed into the corner by the stage with the tattoos & the camera. he doesn't talk much but he takes some amazing pictures -- he's put out a few photozines called ACTION! (he also does STY zine) & his photographs grace the record covers of bands from the problematics to the bobby-teens. go here & bug icki to put more pictures up.

gallery of regrettable food
Thursday, November 18, 1999 :: 05:48 a.m.
i bought about twenty issues of LIFE from the 1940s & 50s at the san francisco public library's annual book sale for a dollar each. the photographs of foodstuffs are the best, all glaze and garish technicolor, mmmm. i'm making postcards for friends with these. check out this gallery's loot of "regrettable" food and be glad your mother was never june cleaver.

angry red planet
Thursday, November 18, 1999 :: 03:16 p.m.
i've been thinking a lot lately about public space and architecture, so this site makes sense. a's folio of work, writing, prints, & zines are all collected here, plus he really likes spiderman. don't tell him, but icki & i have an autographed glossy of the hulk to send him still!

exotic dancers alliance
Thursday, November 18, 1999 :: 03:13 p.m.
on that note (see below), visit the exotic dancers alliance and read up on their amazing efforts to unionize their workplaces.

danzine (for ladies in the biz)
Thursday, November 18, 1999 :: 03:05 p.m.
watching jenny jones, these teen-age girls are strutting their stuff and talking loudly, insisting that the imagined glamour (cars, diamonds, cash, men) of stripping is the life for them, oh yes. they must not know very many strippers (i do, and none of them --while all quite hot-- are rolling in the cash and jewelry and not just a few of them are queer), and i doubt it ever occurred to them that there's some very real labor issues they'll have to deal with -- like clubs hiring girls on as "independent contractors" who have to rent time on stage, on the floor, and then taking a hefty percentage or minimum from each girl every night. have these girls even thought about unions before in their lives? or is it really all about the cads and cabbage? i think they must have watched way too much mtv. anyway, this is a zine by and for "ladies in the biz" written with humor, style, and wit.

infiltration
Thursday, September 2, 1999 :: 04:18 p.m.
he goes places he's not supposed to -- abandoned subway tunnels, burnt-out factories, construction sites in the dead of the night. i used to do this too. what happened?
